Our
Mission
The AWDM Foundation exists exclusively to raise sufficient funds
with which to establish and maintain a fitting and lasting
memorial dedicated to Alabama war dog handlers and the military
working dogs serving beside Alabamians in distant lands. This
memorial to the military dogs that went in harm’s way,
indifferent to their suffering and life to protect American
fighting men and women will be called the Alabama War Dogs
Memorial. Funds will be raised through public and corporate
donations, and other development fund activities that will:
 |
Provide statewide awareness of the role military working
(war) dogs and Alabama handlers play in protecting
Alabamians and the Nation in time of peace and war
|
 |
Provide educational programs and related patriotic
activities to schools, churches, and other community
entities
|
 |
Collect and send the stories, photos, and memorabilia of
Alabama military dog handlers to the Library of Congress
archives in accordance with the Veterans History Program
guidelines
|
 |
Support the adoption of retired military working (war)
dogs through the creation and maintenance of a
retirement center in Alabama
|
 |
Create and maintain a
Service Dog Retirement Center in
Alabama where military, law enforcement, customs, and
life partner dogs that are not adopted and/or need a
home can live out the rest of their life in a caring,
stimulating, and healthy environment. |
